Food Lion donated 30,000 meals to restock Buckroe Baptist Church’s food pantry in Hampton, ahead of the grocery store’s grand opening on May 9.

The grocery store chain will be replacing the Farm Fresh store located at 608 E. Mercury Boulevard.

Volunteers came on out on May 3 to help unload the donation. Click here to view the photos

According to Michele Benson, Chief Development Officer of the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank, the donation reflects Food Lion’s commitment to helping the city and signifies a fresh start to a new relationship between Food Lion and the community.

The donation also reinforces the grocery store chain’s pledge to provide 500 million meals to its Food Lion Feeds hunger relief platform by the end of 2020.

“Food Lion is a valued partner of the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank,” said Benson. “We can always count on them to provide funding, food and volunteers throughout the year to help us fulfill our vision of a hunger-free community.”
