Relay for Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. You can fight cancer and change someone’s life by simply taking your time to raise money and walk.

The Relay for Life of South Hampton Roads at Chesapeake City Park on June 1 is one of the local relays you can participate in with your family, friends and neighbors.

WAVY News 10’s Katie Collett will be emceeing the event. You can follow her on Twitter and follow WAVY on Instagram to keep up with the relay.

Below is the schedule of events throughout the day and night:

12 p.m. – Relay Launch
3 p.m. – Entertainment begins
5:30 p.m. – Survivor reception
7 p.m. – Opening Ceremony. The ceremony will honor those who have been affected by cancer and everyone who has contributed to this year’s Relay season.

7:30 p.m. – Caregiver Lap
10 p.m. – Luminaria Ceremony. During this ceremony, participants will honor those who have been affected by cancer. Each light represents a life—a life taken by cancer, a survivor of cancer or a support for a person still fighting the disease.
