The Virginia Beach Fire Department is teaming up with the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia to fight hunger in Hampton Roads. The campaign known as, “Extinguish Hunger”, makes all VBFD fire stations drop-off sites for food donations.
Each station will have a box positioned just inside the front door for people to deposit their donations; which will then be distributed by the Foodbank.
Here is a list of what the campaign is looking for:
- Non-perishable food
- Non-breakable containers
- Nutritional labels intact
- Low fat, low sodium, low sugar preferred
- Formula, baby food, diapers, wipes welcome
The “Extinguish Hunger” campaign actually began as an effort to help Virginia Beach residents who were directly impacted by the severe flooding Hurricane Matthew left behind in October of last year. During that period, the VBFD collected nearly 4000-pounds of food which the Foodbank turned into 3300 meals for distribution.
