42nd Newport News Fall Festival of Folklore accepting crafting applications

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The 8,000-acre Newport News Park is home again to the 42nd Fall Festival of Folklore in the city this October and officials have just opened applications for crafters.

The festival attracts 70,000 people and 200 craft exhibitors. In its Juried Craft Area, crafters compete for cash awards:  Best in Show ($700) and Craft Category Awards ($300 for first place in glass, clay, jewelry, fiber, folk art, furniture, wood, metal, basketry and other). In the Heritage Area, craft and historic trade demonstrators compete for Best Demonstration ($200) and Best Display ($200). In Marketplace Crafts, which are a wide variety of handmade crafts, Best Display winners receive $200.

There is also a Country Store area with farmer’s market items like jams and bread as well as fresh produce.
