How did Chalk The Walk first get started?

It started 11 years ago, and at that time we were doing an annual Elvis Festival… One of the events at the festival was and Elvis- album-cover-drawing competition. Fest goers would use chalk on the boardwalk to display their art and we’d pick select winners! When the Elvis Festival ended, we decided to make the Chalk The Walk it’s own separate event. Each year since, we’ve held this event with a different theme and have over 200 people who come out and participate.

What have been some of the themes in the past – what is this year’s theme?

Previous themes:

  • Mysteries of the Ocean
  • Superheroes
  • Favorite Movies

This years’ theme is ‘Rock The Walk!’ Participants can draw their favorite album covers of any musical artist or band, their favorite concert experience, instruments, and any genre of music! Just make it your own and be as creative as you want!

Tell me about the prizes:

We have three divisions: Amateur, Youth and Professional. We will have first, second and third place for each category that will receive a trophy and cash prizes! There will also be a  ‘Best of the Boardwalk’ trophy with a cash prize. The cash prizes will range from $40 to $135.
