Hayward Phillips won a $1 million prize in the Virginia Lottery and he didn’t even have to leave his home to play.
The Chesapeake resident is the first player to win the $1 million prize using the lottery’s new online subscription service. Any Virginia resident 18 or older is eligible to buy tickets online.
“We’ve offered subscriptions online for ten years, but recently revamped the system to make it more convenient for consumers,” said Virginia Lottery Executive Director Paula Otto.
Phillips was at work when he received the call from the Virginia Lottery official giving him the life-changing news.
The winning numbers for the May 9 drawing he won were 6-29-45-69-73 and the Mega Ball number was 11. Phillips matched the first five numbers, only missing the Mega Ball number.
