The City of Norfolk cut the ribbon on their latest efforts to combat homelessness and provide affordable housing in the city on Friday. Norfolk Mayor Kenneth Cooper Alexander led a grand opening ceremony for the Church Street Station Studios.
This 350-square-foot building features 81 fully-furnished, studio apartments complete with full bathrooms, full kitchens and Energy Star rated appliances.
The building has a community room, computer room, a fitness room and laundry facilities.
Norfolk said on their Facebook Friday this effort was made possible through a collaborative, regional support system with public and private supporters, including the Virginia Supportive Housing, Virginia Housing Development Authority, the Department of Housing and Community Development, the Virginia Beach City Government, Virginia Community Development Corporation, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta and others.
