A free day of fun is in the forecast for this weekend, as longtime Weather Channel Meteorologist Jim Cantore will be making an appearance at WeatherReady Fest. At Nauticus on Saturday you can learn all about the weather and disaster preparedness.
Children will get a chance to build their own solar-powered house, make a tornado in a bottle and play weather games. They’ll earn a stamp on their WeatherReady passport for each activity they complete, which they can trade in for weather stickers.
Stop by and say hello to WAVY-TV 10 Meteorologists Jeremy Wheeler and Deitra Tate. They will be there to answer questions and will have WAVY Hurricane Guides to pass out; the season’s not over yet!
They will be presentations from other weather experts, including Dr. Marshall Shepherd from WeatherGeeks and former National Hurricane Center Director Bill Read.
Guests of all ages will enjoy seeing the new field vehicle from The Weather Channel and the Command Bus used by Norfolk Emergency Management, which will be on display.
And be sure to check out the debut of the History of Stormchasing – the high def movie is free for everyone in attendance.
The National Weather Association WeatherReady Fest is Saturday, September 10, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Admission requires a free timed ticket available online at: www.weatherreadyfest.com.
