First Black Chief Deputy in Chesapeake Gets Award

Colonel William Clayton Bennett was presented with a plaque for being the “First Black Chief Deputy at the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office.”

The plaque was presented by Larry Riddick, Vice President of the Fentress Community Civic League at Sheriff Jim O’Sullivan’s 3rd Annual Fentress Community Cookout.

Lieutenant Colonel Bennett expressed his appreciation of the acknowledgement and honor, and spoke to the impact that his grandmother and father had on the community years ago.
