Labor Day: the last holiday of summer. Hang out with your family and friends and have a bar-be-que… but don’t bother stopping by the library.

Hampton

City Offices Closed Monday, Sept. 7, 2015
City Schools Closed Monday, Sept. 7
Garbage Collection No recycling, refuse, bulk trash or yard waste collection on Sept. 7 Monday’s collection will be made Wednesday, Sept. 9
Landfill Closed Monday, Sept. 7 and Yard Waste Site Closed Monday, Sept. 7
Street Sweeping No street sweeping Sept. 7; Makeup day is Friday, Sept. 11.
Libraries Closed Monday, Sept. 7

Newport News

Newport News City offices  and libraries closed Monday, Sept. 7 . Solid waste collections will move forward by one day.

Norfolk

The City of Norfolk’s government offices, including City Hall, will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7. The closures includes the offices of the Commissioner of the Revenue and the City Treasurer.

Circuit, General District and Juvenile and Domestic Relations courts will also be closed on Monday, Sept. 7.

Libraries, including Slover Library, will be closed Sunday-Monday, Sept. 6-7.

 

Trash pick up: No change, as there is no regular Monday pick-ups

Portsmouth

City offices: Closed Monday, Sept. 7
Courts: Closed Monday, Sept. 7
Libraries and community centers: Closed Sunday-Monday, Sept. 6-7
Trash pick up: No trash pickup Monday, September 7. Trash will be collected on Wednesday, September 9
The Splash Park and both pools will close for the season on Tuesday, September 8
(after Labor Day).

Suffolk

City offices: Closed Monday, September 7
The Suffolk Tourism Visitor Center will remain open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday, September 7, 2015.
Libraries: Closed Monday, September 7
Trash pick up:Suffolk Public Works Department will pick up trash as scheduled next week.  TFC Recycling will also conduct their normal recycling collection routes. Suffolk Public Works Department reminds you that trash must be placed at curbside no later than 7:00 a.m. on the day of collection. For more information on refuse collection, please call Public Works at 514-7630.
Suffolk Parks & Recreation joint use recreation facilities will be closed Monday, September 7, 2015. The East Suffolk Recreation Center and Whaleyville Community Center will be closed on Monday, September 7, 2015. The Suffolk Parks & Recreation Administration Office will be closed on Monday, September 7, 2015.
Cypress Park & Pool will close for the Summer season at 6 p.m., Sunday, August 30, 2015.
Suffolk’s four major parks – Lone Star Lakes, Constant’s Wharf, Sleepy Hole, and Bennett’s Creek will remain open Monday, September 7, 2015; however, no park attendant will be on duty.

Normal operations will resume Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at 8:30 a.m.

Virginia Beach

The following Virginia Beach facilities will be CLOSED Monday, Sept. 7 in observance of Labor Day:

  • All City of Virginia Beach offices
  • All Virginia Beach community recreation centers
  • All Virginia Beach public libraries
  • The TCC/City Joint-Use Library will be closed Sept. 5, 6 and 7
  • All Virginia Beach city public schools and administration offices
  • Francis Land House, Lynnhaven House, Adam Thoroughgood House and PACTS/Union Kempsville High School Museum
  • Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney
  • The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts administrative offices and box office
  • The Virginia Beach Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile & Domestic
  • Relations Courts and Clerk’s Offices
  • Virginia Beach Convention Center administrative offices
  • Virginia Beach Public Health Department
The following facilities will be OPEN to the public, Monday, Sept. 7 during the following hours:
  • All Virginia Beach city parks and park facilities — 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Chesapeake Bay Center at First Landing State Park — 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center — 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Sunday, Sept. 6, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Visitor Center on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Center — 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Visitor Information Center – 2100 Parks Ave.  — 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Visitor Center at 24th & 17th streets information kiosks — 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center — 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Virginia Beach Farmers Market offices closed — Market vendors open — 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
