Hampton Roads Navy Commands Celebrate Fleet Week

The U.S. Navy will celebrate their 241st birthday with Fleet Week Hampton Roads. Each year, the Navy. local businesses and organizations celebrate Fleet Week to help increase awareness of the Navy’s mission.

The events also recognize the sacrifices and contributions of sailors, past and present, who are neighbors, volunteers and citizens actively working to enhance the quality of life in Hampton Roads.

As part of Fleet Week Hampton Roads, sailors will also visit area schools. Sailors will participate in the raising of morning colors, reading to students, band performances and participate in physical education activities.

Some Fleet Week events are open to the public, and will be of interest to everyone in the community.

Fleet Week Schedule:

Wednesday, October 12 – U.S. Fleet Forces Band performances at local schools.

Thursday, October 13 – Military Appreciation Day at the Norfolk Botanical Garden – Active duty service members and their families will receive free admission in honor of the Navy’s birthday.

Friday, October 14 – Admirals Hockey Fleet Week Special – Tickets are $11 for active duty service members with military ID, and can be purchased at the Scope Box Office.

Saturday, October 15 – Grunt Run – Test your agility on a 5-mile obstacle/endurance course. Post-race party will feature a DJ and complimentary food/beverages for registered participants. For more information, visit www.raceit.com.
