JCC offering free self-defense course


Don’t become a victim. Learn how to protect yourself if you’re ever confronted by an attacker.

The James City County Police Department and JCC Parks and Rec have partnered with RAD – a self-defense course for women – and are offering the course for free.

Women 13 and older are invited to attend and participants are expected to attend all six sessions. If you’re interested, pre-registration is required and can be completed through JCC Parks and Recreation’s online registration system using Activity #308210-A or by calling 757-259-4200.

The courses will be held at the James City County Recreation Center at 5301 Longhill Road on the following dates:

  • September 20 — 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  • September 22 — 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  • September 24 — 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
  • September 27 — 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  • September 29 — 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  • October 1 — 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.

The RAD training focuses on practical, simple techniques and is currently being taught at more than 400 college campuses nationwide.
