It’s that time of the year that some parents dread, that time where the kids are going to be out of school for a few days, better known as Spring Break. Instead of them being stuck in the house there are some great events going on at local libraries, museums, parks and various other locations.

Engineering for Kids: Spring Break Camp/Engineering for Kids Learning Center/Monday, March 28th – Friday, April 1st

Spring Fling/Chesapeake Public Library – South Norfolk/Monday, March 28 & Wednesday, March 30th
Hop on over to the library for fun spring activities and eee if you can find the special guest.


Spring Break Science Camps/Virginia Air & Space Center/Monday, April 4th – Friday, April 8th
You can find out what’s it like to be an astronaut, learn about robots, become a pilot in a flight simulator and so much more.

Spring Story Time/Northampton Public Library/Starting Thursday, March 24th
Fun with reading activities and science skills. Enjoy books, rhymes, movements with music and crafts.

Legends of the Night Sky/Virginia Living Museum/Monday, March 28th – Friday, April 1st
Join the VLM in the Abbitt Planetarium for a look into the night sky and a fascinating retelling one of the classic Greek legends surrounding the constellations that can be found there.


Spring Break Food Wars/Norfolk Public Library – Little Creek & Pretlow/Monday, March 28th – Friday, April 1st
Spend your week learning new cooking skills or sharpen old ones, then put them to the test in our 4-H Food Challenge.

Spring Break Mini Day Camps/Vivian C. Mason Center/Tuesday, March 29th – Thursday, March 31st
Join Teens With a Purpose and the Norfolk Police Department to help build stronger community relationships through fun and interactive workshops. Open to Middle School and High School students. Lunch will be provided daily.

Spring Break Safari Camp/Virginia Zoo/Monday, March 28th – Friday, April 1st
This spring-time adventure gives campers the opportunity to go behind the scenes, have unique animal encounters, and experience the Zoo in a whole new way.

Spring Break Fun/Portsmouth Public Library – Churchland/Monday, March 28th – Friday, April 1st
Board games, sidewalk art contest, arts & crafts, movie and so much more.

Spring Break Workshop/Children’s Museum of Virginia/Monday, March 28th & Wednesday, March 30th
Children will engage in activities their historic counterparts would have been familiar with, including Native American bead working, making pinch pots, and assembling corn husk dolls; designing spinning tops from pioneer times; and stamp making and boat building from colonial times.


Spring into Art/Suffolk Public Library/Tuesday, March 29th – Friday, April 1st
Have fun and get creative with tons of art projects working with all kinds of different mediums.

Children and teens exercise their imaginations and express themselves through art classes designed specifically to challenge and inspire. Explore a variety of media including glass, animation, clay and painting, to name a few.

Dolphin Discoveries Sea Adventure/Virginia Aquarium/Monday, March 28th – 30th, Friday April, 1st
An unforgettable 90-minute excursion aboard the Atlantic Explorer in an exploration for Virginia’s most common and charismatic marine mammal, bottlenose dolphins.

Maker Break/Virginia Beach Public Library – Joint Use/Monday, March 28th, 30th and 31st
Come to the library and make something new during Spring Break. You’ll use low and high technologies to make textile, glass, paper or electronic creations.

Spring Break Camp: Under the Sea/SensoryAbled Kids: A Multi-Sensory Play and Learn Center/Monday, March 28th
There will be “making an ocean in a bottle” crafts, and beach/under the sea themed sensory bins for sensory play. Also group activities such as group lego play or group build with blocks or puzzles.

Spring Break Nature Programs/First Landing State Park/Various Dates & Times
With everything from hikes to nature educational programs there are lots of great, outdoor activities on the schedule during Spring Break.

Score big with daily tournaments and group activities; 03/28: Hot Shot Tournament, 03/29: FIFA Tournament, 03/30: 3-Point Shootout, 03/31: Madden 16 Tournament, 04/01: Pin Dodgeball Tournament. Light refreshments provided.


Archaeological Investigations at Kingsmill Resort/Williamburg Regional Library/Thursday, March 24th – Thursday, March 31st
This exhibit highlights the data recovery research through photographs of site excavation, historical photographs and maps, and some of the artifacts left behind by the site’s former occupants.

DIG! Kids, Dirt & Discovery/Colonial Williamsburg/Monday, March 28th – Friday, April 1st
Have you ever wondered how archaeologists work? What they find how in this 50-minute hands-on excavation that gives children a brief introduction to archaeological digging, screening, and lab work.

Marsh March/York River State Park/Thursday, April 7th
Explore the salt meadow hay and capture fiddler crabs in the wetlands at the Taskinas Creek/York River confluence.
