Keeping Virginia Beach’s Waterways Clean

You can adopt animals, highways and now drains! The City of Virginia Beach approved an “Adopt-a-Drain” program in September of 2017 and now they’re ready to accept volunteers who would like to help protect their local waterways.

Virginia Beach has over 40,000 storm drains across the city, according the city’s website. Adopting a drain is a simple way to help out the city and the environment.

Just choose your drain, give it a name and sweep around it a few times a year to keep it free of debris like grass clippings, leaves, pine needles, sediment and trash. By doing this, you can help keep pollution from being carried down the storm drain that leads to your closest lake or stream.
