I chatted with Parks and Natural Areas Coordinator Rick Rowe about this year’s event!

- A: Rick Rowe, Parks and Natural Areas Coordinator, Mt. Trashmore Summer Carnival
What are the new attractions or features guest can look forward to?
It’s a very large traveling carnival, the same one that was recently at Strawberry Festival! They will have some new rides because they are continuously reinventing ways to draw in new visitors and bring back old ones for fun experiences. I know there will be a new Scrambler and Tilt-A-Whirl, but the carnival will have all of your favorite major rides and an array of children’s rides. It really has everything a family is looking for- for a good time at a carnival!
What kind of food will there be?
Everything from hamburgers and hot dogs to funnel cakes! It’s funny, because we actually get a lot of questions about the funnel cake vendor and when/where he will be. Honestly, some people just come for the funnel cakes because they are THAT good.
You also have games that people can play- what are some of the returning ones?
There’s games of skill and games of chance – I know there will be a ring toss, where you can win some awesome-stuffed animal prizes and really all of your favorite carnival games will be there.
What’s going on with security this year?
There was an isolated incident last year that occurred on opening weekend last year, and to help prevent that from happening we are adding additional security, light towers, perimeter fencing and we’re closing a little earlier. This worked well for us in the past and helps us to control access to the carnival.
