Newport News to hold inaugural marathon in March

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Newport News’ inaugural marathon starts in March and runners are gearing up to tour the city on the 26.2 mile track.

The “One City Marathon” will take place March 15 and start in Newport News Park finishing at the Victory Arch in downtown. The event is meant to bring people together and focus on wellness for residents. The city offers free training and health sessions as well.

The course is certified and will serve as a qualifier for the Boston marathon.

There’s also a marathon relay, an 8k and a mile race.

The marathon is at 7 a.m. The 8k is at 7:45 a.m. and the one-mile event is at 10 a.m.

The marathon is $80 until March 1 and then it increases to $85.
