Norfolk Mayor Kenny Alexander and city officials have honored a legendary resident. The city has renamed Philpotts Road to Walter H. Green Sr. Road.
Mr. Green was known for his work as Chairman of the Philpotts Road Improvement Group. The group’s effort turned the road from a small roadway with flooding problems to a well-maintained city street.
The Booker T. Washington grad was also an education leader for the city of Norfolk. He became the first African-American counselor and coach at Norview High School.
City Council voted to designate the road in Green’s honor back on July 28.
