The 34th Annual Norfolk Waterfront Jazz Festival is happening Friday, July 15 and Saturday, July 16! Due to the heat index, high temperatures and inclement weather, both Friday and Saturday performances have been moved into the Norfolk Scope.
Over 8 artists will take over the stage playing everything from smooth jazz to R & B. Here are the details for events as of right now! Keep an eye on hrScene social media as well as Festevents for updates regarding the weather situation.
I chatted with the Festevents Marketing Director Jason Nichols about this year’s Jazz Festival event.

Anything new that sets it apart from previous years?
We’ve had to add more seats because of how much it has grown from years prior! We started out with around 500 seats and are quickly reaching over 900 seats sold. We are trying to make it more of a ‘concert feel’ by having these reserved areas for people, while out in a park on the waterfront.
What’s the biggest draw for this year’s festival?
I think the line-up we have this year is absolutely phenomenal! It’s truly the reason we’ve had such a great response from not only the community but outside of the region. The line-up is action packed with legendary performers who will be taking over the stage both Friday and Saturday. We are all really looking forward to it!
What kind of food and beverages will be available?
- Ronnie’s BBQ
- Strawberry Street (Cajun)
- All-in-one (chicken, BBQ)
- Seafood city
- Omar’s carriage house
What else should we know before we go?
We allow people to bring umbrellas into the park – but during the performances we need them closed so that it doesn’t impede on other fest goers’ views of the show!
If you have a general reserved ticket, you can come find your ‘real estate,’ put your chairs and picnic basket down (no alcohol) and enjoy the show! We will have LED screens that for people further back so everyone can enjoy the music and the performances no matter where they are in the park.
