Furry friends of the Outer Banks SPCA had their paws full of food donations from the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island (NCARI) during the Santa Paws holiday pet food drive.

From Nov. 20 to Jan. 4, guests at the aquarium donated a total of 2,662 pounds of food and pet supplies to the SPCA.

The Outer Banks SPCA said the donations were a huge help to all of the adoptable animals that call the Outer Banks SPCA home.  Throughout the drive, if a guest brought in at least a seven-pound bag of dog or cat food they got into the aquarium for free.

SPCA Executive Director John Graves said in a press release the annual drive is a big help to the animal shelter, which takes in approximately 2,000 dogs and cats each year.

NCARI is raising food for the Roanoke Island Food pantry currently, another annual drive they host. The Ton of Love food drive runs through Valentine’s Day, and guests are invited to bring non-perishable good to the aquarium to help out.
