The Fishing Pier at Portsmouth City Park is officially open! A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Monday, September 19 and there were already fishermen and crabbers ready to test it out.
Getting access to Baines Creek, a tributary to the Western Branch of the Elizabeth River, will be easier with the new pier. It sits on the eastern side of the park near the tennis courts.
The pier is 220 feet-long, 10 feet-wide and T-shaped. Construction began in July and was completed in August. The pier is the only designated fishing location in Portsmouth that is free and open to the public. It boasts a breathtaking view of the Elizabeth River.
Portsmouth City Park is located at Cpl J M Williams Avenue.
