Hey Hampton Roads Runners! How’s your training going? We’re here to get you moving and get you ready to race this weekend, and bring you some race results!
But first, let me take a Selfie… Okay, I always wanted to to do that. Seriously, let’s look back at “The Week That Was” or as many people call it: last week’s local races.
Congrats to Dannell Jerriff of Virginia Beach, winner of last weekend’s SunnyDay 5k with a solid time of 18:20. Elizabeth Wade was the Women’s Champion, rocking the 3.1 mile course at Mount Trashmore in 20:40.
The Road Rage Cross Country 5K Race at Virginia Wesleyan had a family feel to it. Daniel Smith was the overall winner in 18:04, while Daniel Smith, Jr. finished second with a nice 18:18 effort. On the ladies side, Lydia Wilson took the title in 20:53. Well Done!
On the Peninsula, Powhatan Creek Trail race was won by good Running friend, Greg Dawson. His time of 18:14 was just enough to best Jack Lovett, who crossed the line in 18:48. Did I mention both of these speedy guys are over 45 years old? Lisa Osterhoudt was the first female, in 21:33. Good things and great races happen on BOTH sides of the water. I’m always on the lookout for good runs for you, whether it’s in your backyard or across the state line.
So? What’s going on this weekend, you ask? Fun Runs, Races, and even a Triathlon, if you feel inspired.
Tuesdays in July, the Tidewater Striders continue their Fun runs at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens. They had their Random Relay yesterday and next week, it’s their Poker Run. Taking a look at their calendar, they have activities for running, biking, and swimming.
Wednesday and Thursday, our great friends at J&A Racing (Shout out to Jerry and Amy Frostick!) have “Happy Hour” Runs. Wednesday they start at Shorebreak in Virginia Beach, while Thursday is in Portsmouth.
You want more, Running Etc., the place many of you go to buy your gear, have group runs many times during the week. Give them a call to get the “low down” at 757-491-2340.
Saturday, The Peninsula Track Club has their Third and Final Trailzilla 5 Miler Run in Hampton. a quick peek at the website, peninsulatrackclub.com, will tell you more. Sandy Bottom Park runs are always a good time.
Looking to Get Wet? The Allen Stone Run/ Swim Run returns to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront Saturday morning. This is a good starter for those who want to do more an just a run. This Duathlon race starts at 24th Street. That’s new from previous years, when it began at 31st Street. It’s a 1K swim and a 5K Run. You know you want to do it.
Sunday, get the day going at the First Annual East Coast Aloha 5K and 1 Mile Run at Mount Trashmore. Medals can be won at the race and they will have Polynesian food and a band as well. Since it’s the First time for them, we wish them “Good Luck!”
If you want to get your competitive spirits really jumping Sunday morning, a trip up to Warrenton offers the Sizzlin’ Summer Triathlon. Your challenge is a 300 Meter Swim, followed by a 12.4 Mile Bike, finished off with 5K run. Interested? Check out mettleevents.com and go be amazing!
