Two New Tomistoma Crocodiles at the Virginia Aquarium

Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center has two new residents.

Two juvenile Tomistoma Crocodiles arrived on Halloween.

They were born and raised in a Malaysian crocodile farm, and their arrival makes them one of only six breeding pairs of Tomistoma in North America. They’re a big couple, too. The female is 8 feet long and weighs approximately 112 pounds and the male is 7 feet long and weighs 65 pounds.

They are named Ralf and Sommer in honor of Ralf Sommerlad, a German crocodile specialist that spent his life working to study and protect animals like the Tomistoma. They are on exhibit and live in the Restless Planet gallery at the Aquarium.

If you want to visit Ralf and Sommer, go to the Aquarium! Their hours  are Monday through Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. More information about the Aquarium is available at www.virginiaaquarium.com.
