The Elizabeth River Project and a local law firm teamed up for the restoration of the river’s Eastern Branch shoreline. Pender & Coward, along with 50 volunteers, spent several hours picking up a ton or more of trash. The volunteers also spent time planting native wetlands grass.
The planting was donate help restore the shore and protect the river from pollution. A large portion of the area was damaged from a floating junkyard of abandoned ships.
The full restoration project could take up to a year and a half to complete.
