Friday – Sunday | African Arrival Day | Citywide & Fort Monroe
African Arrival Day commemorates the 1619 arrival of the first Africans in English North America at Point Comfort (site of Fort Monroe). The 2016 event will launch awareness of the 2019 400th anniversary commemoration. This public event will include tours of the Godspeed, live musical entertainment, performing arts, historical tours, guest speakers, art exhibits, youth activities, and a film festival.

The Breanne C. Mahon Foundation wants to invite you to participate in Bre’s Butterfly 5k and Caterpillar 1 mile fun-run. Proceeds from this years event will benefit Doctor’s Without Borders’, ForKids and Seton Youth Shelters. All registered participants will receive tech t-shirt, all finishers will receive a finishers medal and there will be age group awards.

Before the movie starts, dance the afternoon away with our Astro DJ playing family friendly music. 10 a.m. | ‘1619: Arrival of the First Africans’ Art Exhibit | Hampton History Museum
The exhibit details how the Africans came into the possession of Captain Jope and taken aboard the White Lion, including the politics and piracy that put them in the hands of the Englishmen who had taken them from the Spanish slave trader and diverted them from their original destination of Vera Cruz in Mexico to Virginia.

10 a.m. | The 6th Annual Honey Bee Festival | Norfolk Botanical Garden
The Norfolk Botanical Garden and the Beekeepers Guild of Southeast Virginia are teaming up once again to bring you the Sixth Annual Honey Bee Festival. This year, guests of all ages can expect food, music, bee-related merchandise, and an opportunity to look into a bee hive! Children who dress as a bee will get a free honey stick, and there will be a Bee Costume Parade at 11 a.m.
