Chesapeake, Suffolk Elementary Schools Battle for Reading Supremacy

The Suffolk Public Library and Chesapeake Public Library partnered up for a game-show style reading competition to fifth grade students in the two cities. Teams read selected titles and then answered questions based on the readings.

Suffolk Mayor, Linda Johnson, went to visit the two Suffolk elementary schools that finished second and third. Chesapeake’s Great Bridge Intermediate took the top spot followed by Suffolk’s Northern Shores Elementary and then Driver Elementary.

Overall, students used their teamwork skills to compete and answer questions. Chesapeake had participation from fifteen schools. Suffolk had participation from nine out of the eleven elementary schools.
