A Great Night For Local Music

The historic Attucks Theater was packed last night as the music community of Hampton Roads gathered to be honored for the 4th Veer Magazine Local Music Awards.  The evening kicked off with the house band (and Live Music Friday alum) The Fuzz Band performing ‘Stand’ by Sly and The Family Stone with guest vocalist William Pooler of the local rock band Funhouse and everything just went up hill from there.

Big winners last night included Seth Stainback and Roosterfoot, who took home Best Rock Band and Album Of The Year for their fantastic ‘Fire and Steel’ record and Little Pants,  just formed a year ago, grabbed Best Acoustic/Folk and Song Of The Year for ‘The Place I Live’, from their EP – ‘Little EP’.  Norfolk Sound legend Lenis Guess was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award and received a monstrous standing ovation as he accepted it.  Bruce Gray of The Bartones performed Lenis’ hit ‘Workin’ For My Baby’ with a big thumbs up from Mr. Guess and his family.

Several members of the Live Music Friday took home trophies including The Wet Boys (Best Live Performer), Gina Dalmas and The Cow Tippin’ Playboys (Best Country), Anthony Rosano and The Conqueroos (Best Blues), Evan Button (Best Teen), The Fuzz Band (Best R&B), Esbern Snare (Best Experimental), Skye Zentz (Best Busker), Logan Layman (Best Emerging Artist), Sicman of VA (Best Indie Pop) and Seth Stainback (Best Rock and Best Album).thrsveer

On a personal level, I was honored to accept the award for The Hampton Roads Show as Best Media Program Promoting Local Music.  It’s an absolute joy to be able to showcase the hard work of our local musicians and it is truly an honor to be recognized for it.  THANK YOU.
