The Monday Beat – March 16, 2015

It’s going to be a beautiful spring-like day today and tomorrow with sunshine and 70-degree warmth and I can’t think of a better way to spend a gorgeous day than by going outside and listening to some great music.  The festival season is just around the corner and I have a little preview of what to look forward to.

New this year is the LAVA Music Festival.  Happening Saturday, May 16 at the Suffolk Executive Airport, The LAVA Music Festival will featuring Fitz and The Tantrums, Of Montreal, MuteMath, Tokyo Police Club, Robert DeLong, Cloud Nothings, A Great Pile Of Leaves and our local representatives Kishi Bashi, Major and The Monbacks, and Wyteshayds.  Tickets are available now starting at $61.50 online but you can find tickets at a lower cost at several outlets around Hampton Roads (Click here for locations that are selling tickets) including Saturday night at 80/20 Burger Bar in Norfolk.  LAVA will be hosting a FREE preview concert with Wyteshayds, Long Division and Daniel Neale.  They will be giving away tickets throughout the night and if you don’t win them – you’ll be able to purchase them at the show for $55.

Chesapeake’s The Hunts will be performing at this year’s FireFly Music Festival up Rt. 13 in Dover, DE.  This is the 4th year for the festival and it continues to grow and is becoming one of the must-see festivals in the country.  The four day event runs June 18-21 with headliners Paul McCartney, Kings Of Leon and The Killers.  Lineups for each date haven’t been announced yet but I will let you know what day The Hunts are performing when it’s announced.  Tickets are onsale now but get them now as they will go quick.  If you’re unable to attend, no worries, I will be there giving you a front row ticket on everything you missed.

If you’re still feeling green after this weekend – well, St. Patrick’s Day is Tuesday – The Fighting Jamesons, featuring our bud Mike Powers from 94.9 The Point, will be performing at the ShamrockFest at Washington’s RFK Stadium Saturday, March 21.  Billed as ‘America’s largest St. Paddy’s Day Celebration’, the event will feature over 25 bands and plenty of good shenanigans.

Last but not least, SXSW is happening now in Austin with the music portion of the festival kicking off tomorrow and The Last Bison is will take part for a couple of days.  If you’re heading down there, they will be performing at the Shiner’s Saloon March 18th, Esther’s Follies March 19th and the Scoot Inn March 20th.  They are currently on a nationwide spring tour in support of their new EP, Dorado.  They recently preformed to a packed house at Sandler Center as part of the Out Of The Box music series.

That’s it for me today, I’ll leave you with the new video from The Last Bison of their single ‘This Changes Everything”.
