One of summer’s favorite traditions is happening this week at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront – The 53nd annual East Coast Surfing Championship. More than just a surfing competition, ECSC holds a number events for everyone’s palate including BMX, paddle boarding, sand field hockey, flag football, a 5K and much more. 3-time Olympic Beach Volleyball Gold Medalist Misty May-Treanor will hold a youth volleyball clinic Thursday that you will have to register for. For the cornhole lover, a tournament will take place Saturday and Sunday with $2000 in prize money – click here if you would like to participate. Of course, the surfing takes center stage as the professional heats take hold of the swells this weekend and let’s not forget about the music.
The lineup for this year is a good mix of the area’s best cover bands, reggae and funk. The Rock Of The ’80s tour featuring The Romantics, The Smithereens and The Motels will headline Saturday night. Sunday is a day reserved for the sounds of the islands – One of the best reggae bands in Hampton Roads, Nature’s Child, will perform at 5:20. Checkout the full lineup below and pack your sunscreen and head out to the Oceanfront. It’s a great event for the whole family.
