6 p.m. | Rolling of the Bulls and Roosterfoot at the Hampton Block Party | Downtown Hampton
Inspired by the Running of the Bulls, an event that takes place in Spain, Portugal, and some parts of Mexico where festival goers…what else… run with the bulls, the Rolling of the Bulls in Hampton will feature participants running from Dominion Derby Girls on skates with whiffle ball bats. The event begins with the Blessing of the Bulls and then the .5 mile run starts. Each runner MUST wear white with a red scarf and sash (so the girls know exactly who to hit!) and creativity is highly suggested.

2:30 p.m. | Civil War Lecture: Lab Fridge | The Mariner’s Museum
In addition to the large number of metal artifacts in the USS Monitor collection, there are also about 700 organic-based objects. Ranging from common gaskets containing fabric to sophisticated garments and wooden gun tools, all of these artifacts spend some time in our walk-in refrigerator before being conserved; some of them are still there awaiting treatment. This presentation will provide an overview of the vast organic collection recovered from the Monitor’s wreck site and discuss how conservators within the Batten Conservation Complex at The Mariners’ Museum and Park are stabilizing these artifacts for future generations.

Lessons in Jazz engages audiences in discussions of hip-hop’s history and its relationship with sampling, bringing generations together while educating both young and old on music of the past and its influences on music today.

Calling all artists and “wanna-be” artists! Artists of all ages and skill levels will stake their 4’x4′ space right on the Virginia Beach boardwalk! Artist registration takes place on the boardwalk at 17th Street, and chalk art is displayed for two blocks. Advance registration for the Chalk the Walk is not required and there is no fee to participate, but we do ask that artists bring their own chalk.
