Local Sports Scene Heating Up

So many sports, so little time!

Don’t you just love this time of year when the sports world collides? Last weekend was the first full weekend of college football, and this weekend is the first full weekend of the NFL. All this great action as Major League Baseball moves one step closer to the playoffs.

So if you are looking for some sports fun this weekend you have many options. All of our local college football teams are in action, but only William & Mary will be at home when the Tribe hosts Hampton.

Keep an eye on the other local schools because many have big match-ups. Old Dominion is at Appalachian State, Norfolk State will play at Richmond and Christopher Newport is at Hampden-Sydney. Also, East Carolina is hosting N.C. State.

As for the Commonwealth’s ACC schools, Virginia is at Oregon and one of the biggest games of the weekend, and in all of college football, will take place at the Bristol Motor Speedway. Virginia Tech will play Tennessee in a game that has been talked about for nearly 20 years. Bristol Motor Speedway can seat close to 150,000 fans. The game between the Hokies and the Volunteers is expected to shatter the attendance record for a college football game.

And don’t forget, NASCAR racing comes to Richmond Saturday for the 20th night race at The Action Track.

We are just one week past Labor Day Weekend and the sports world is really starting to heat up! Have a great weekend!
