Friday – Saturday | Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka Live | Ella Fitzgerald Theater
Enjoy the magic and the wonder of experiencing this classic tale as you have never seen it before. $10 admission.

Friday – Sunday | Mid Atlantic Quilt Show | Hampton Roads Convention Center
This crafty event will feature everything for quilt, fiber, wearable and textile artists. In addition to the exhibitions of quilt, garment and fiber art, there will be workshops and lectures presented by leading instructors along with demonstrations of the latest techniques.

2 p.m. | Beer Release – One City Gose | Tradition Brewing Company
In honor of Newport News’ hometown One City Marathon, Tradition Brewing Company crafted a specialty brew known as One City Gose. Running the race or cheering from the sidelines, this refreshing beer guarantees to beat the clock every time.

7 p.m. | Connections – Newport News Hampton National Alliance on Mental Illness | Denbigh Church of Christ
NAMI Connection Recovery Support Group is a free, peer-led support group for adults living with mental illness. You will gain insight from hearing the challenges and successes of others, and the groups are led by NAMI-trained facilitators who’ve been there. NAMI’s Support Groups are unique because they follow a structured model to ensure you and others in the group have an opportunity to be heard and to get what you need. The groups meet on a bi-weekly basis.


5 p.m. | 4th Friday Night Bazaar | Selden Market
Selden Market hosts a monthly evening shopping experience complete with drinks, live music, DJs, a large assortment of the region’s best pop-ups, food, art and other rotating entertainment and activities.


7 p.m. | Wine and Lime Mojito Paint Night | Habana Hemingway Cafe

5 p.m. | MoMAC Brewing Company tap takeover & steal the pint night | The Egg Bistro
MoMAC Brewing Company tap takeover and steal the pint night will take place this Saturday, Feb. 24. MoMAC Brewing Company out of Portsmouth will have three beers on tap and all pints will be just $5. With every beer purchase you get to keep the logo pint glass (while supplies last). There will also be free growlers with the purchase of fill up all night long.


10 a.m. | Hydroponics 101 | Countryside Gardens
Learn about the state-of-the-art techniques for producing food in a controlled, soilless setting. Hydroponics is a method of growing using nutrient solutions in water, without the use of soil. Plants can be grown with their roots in the mineral nutrient solution only or in an inert medium, such as perlite, Rockwool or gravel.

10 a.m. | Make Your Own Rain Barrel Workshop | The Mariners’ Museum and Park
In partnership with the Virginia Cooperative Extension, the City of Newport News Natural Resources Division, and the City of Newport News Recycling Office, The Mariners’ Museum and Park is hosting a rain barrel workshop! Participants will be guided through rain barrel assembly and will get to take home a finished product after this two-hour workshop. Cost is $70 per person and includes all the materials needed to make their rain barrel.

Enjoy the magic and wonder of experiencing this classic tale as you have never seen it before. The cast members were selected based on how well they performed, not based on their race, age, physical appearance or capacities. As a result, this show is one of the most inclusive casts to ever take the Ella Fitzgerald Theater Stage.

3:30 p.m. | Hilton Village Lecture Series: The First Decade | The Mariners’ Museum and Park
Attend the last lecture in the Historic Winter Speaker Series, titled, “Chartering the Course to Greatness: The Huntington Family”. The lecture will be given by John Quarstein in the Huntington Room of The Mariners’ Museum and Park.

Free health and wellness screenings for veterans. Bring a military ID or copy of DD214.

9:30 a.m. | Nothing But Net | Naval Station Norfolk MWR
Come out and put your 3-Point skills to the test in the MWR NAVSTA three-point shoot contest. We will also be hosting a Coed 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. Winners from both competions will go on to a Regional Tournament to see whose the best in the MId-Atlantic Area! Participation is FREE and prizes will be given.

12:30 p.m. | Women’s Self Defense Seminar | Norfolk Karate Academy
Norfolk Karate Academy in collaboration with ODU’s Women’s Center is hosting a FREE women’s self defense seminar focusing on how to escape some of the most common attacks on women. This event is open to the public and no prior experience is necessary; just wear comfortable workout attire and show up ready to learn and have fun.

The Smithfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8545 invite the Community for an “Ole Fashioned Country Breakfast” at our Post located, at 223 Washington Street, across from the library and YMCA. Breakfast is served with a menu of: scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, biscuits, gravy, hash browns, corn bread, fried salt spot and mixed fruit. Come out and watch some birds with Take to the Trail. This free event lets you join members of The Hampton Roads Bird Club for a bird watching workshop. Learn how to identify local species, and learn about their natural history.
