Make a Summer Sports Camp Game Plan

The race to the finish line is about to begin for the school year and now is the time to get your summer plans in order for the young athletes in the family. Depending on your player’s skill level and age, its important to know that spring sports are underway and it might be too late to sign up at your local recreational league. Each sport and recreational league is different, so check your local league for late sign ups.

If you are looking to keep your little player active, involved and entertained this summer, now is the time to put together a game plan.

You first have to identify the sport and there are plenty to choose from. Soccer, baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, field hockey, lacrosse and track and field are just a few of the team sports that jump out this time of year. Individual sports like golf, tennis, swimming, gymnastics, wrestling, karate and judo are other great sports options to pursue at a young age. If your child is still not sure what spring or summer sport is right for them, you can always point them towards other sports like horseback riding, sailing, roller skating, cheer, surfing or even archery.

You do not have to look far to find great local camps, instructors and leagues that offer coaching and guidance with all these sports here in Hampton Roads. Your local YMCA or recreational center is a great place to start. If you want to get more sports specific, try one of the local universities in the area like Old Dominion, Christopher Newport or the College of William & Mary. With their facilities and expert coaching staffs, these universities offer great summer sports camp options.

And if you still are having trouble finding the right camp for your little athlete, consider using the Summer Camp guide which can connect you with the perfect summer camp.

These are just a few ideas to get the ball rolling. And that is the message here! Get your game plan in order and have fun in your pursuit of summer sports fun!
