Grand Finale of ‘Resilience’ at BOJUart

After weeks of live mural painting inside BOJUart Gallery in the ViBe District, it is time to celebrate the grand finale of muralist Nico Cathcart’s Resilience exhibition.

Resilience has been described as an immersive and interactive art experience at BOJUart, where Nico has included observers in to her live mural painting and the personal mythology behind it.

Nico’s latest work, including the 25-foot indoor mural in BOJUart, has centered on birds. According to a press release, Nico uses birds as a metaphor for resilience in the face of disability…something she is currently battling.

It was this very animal that helped Nico discover she was becoming deaf due to a genetic, tone-based hearing loss. The press release stated that Nico is an avid hiker and bird watcher. One day she noticed the woods around her were becoming silent.

The birds in her work, and in nature,  remind her not to take these things for granted, the press release says.

In addition to her live mural painting, the exhibition at BOJUart features some of her never-before-seen work from the past year.

Observers at the gallery are asked to meditate on their own adversities and then create a bird to affix to a murmuration wall.

The grand finale event will take place on Jan. 24 and Jan. 25 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at BOJUart Gallery located at 1703 Mediterranean Avenue. The event will include other regional and local artists.
