Kids fighting cancer at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) are getting a little help with their battle through Farm Fresh.
Farm Fresh President Micky Nye presented a $179,874 donation to CHKD last week at the hospital’s outpatient cancer and blood disorders unit, which was built with the help of funds raised and donated by Farm Fresh.
The gift was a result of Farm Fresh’s Round Up campaign which took place earlier this spring. You might remember rounding your grocery bill to the next dollar. Well that change added up!
“As we complete this Round Up campaign, the dedication and support shown by our customers and Farm Fresh associates for children fighting cancer continues to inspire us. There is a passion for this cause that is undeniable and we are proud to facilitate this giving,” Nye said.
As the only cancer program in the region specifically designed for children, CHKD follows more than 500 childhood cancer patients from across southeastern Virginia, Virginia’s Eastern Shore and northeastern North Carolina. Approximately 70 local children receive new diagnoses each year – more than one each week. CHKD’s oncologists can offer patients up-to-the-minute treatment innovations through more than 50 cancer research protocols for everything from bone cancer to brain tumors.
Farm Fresh Food & Pharmacy operates 41 stores in Hampton Roads, Franklin and Richmond, Virginia, and Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Farm Fresh also operates a free-standing pharmacy located inside CHKD. For more information about Farm Fresh visit: www.farmfreshsupermarkets.com.
