A fundraiser is being held at Shaka’s Live on Sunday, June 24 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. for one of their own — Keith Walker.
The 38-year-old has been a bartender at Shaka’s and Seaside Raw Bar for 10 years, according to Faline Mahaffey who is helping organize the fundraiser.
The event will include live music all day, vendors including PJ Reed with his cancer-fighting Panda merchandise, a silent auction and they will be raffling off a 1992 Jeep Wrangler that was generously donated by Kim Merritt for the cause. Merritt has been battling cancer himself and was planning to sell the Jeep, according to Mahaffey.
Walker was diagnosed with stage four esophageal cancer in April after being misdiagnosed with back pain for a period of time, Mahaffey said. In addition to bartending, Walker is a local artist and has performed at different venues for many years. Since his diagnosis, he hasn’t been able to work as often.
The community decided to come together and raise money for Walker and his family. Mahaffey says all of the money raised will go directly to Walker.
