Portsmouth Public Schools Receives Grant from NFL Superstar

The foundation of a three-time NFL defensive MVP has awarded an athletic grant to Portsmouth Public Schools. The JJ Watt Foundation has given the school system’s three middle school football programs a $5,000 grant.

The grant will be used to purchase helmets and other safety equipment for the teams.

Watt, from the Houston Texans, formed the foundation to provide funding for schools in need for extracurricular and athletic activities. The foundation hopes that kids learn the basic character traits of accountability, teamwork, leadership, work ethic and perseverance while in a safe and supervised environment with their peers.
