The Virginia Beach City Public Schools’ annual “Beach Bags” food drive brought in record numbers this year.
Over 12,000 pounds of food was collected and over $18,000 in donations were raised, according to a press release. Those are the highest numbers for the drive to date.
The drive was held on March 22 at various locations throughout the city.
Established in 2009, the Beach Bags program was created to provide meals and healthy snacks to students who may not have enough to eat during weekends and school vacations.
The program has been able to pass out over 85,000 Beach Bags since its creation, including 14,000 just this school year, according to a press release.
