If you have a green thumb and wish that you could raise a tree or shrub of your own, you’re in luck! Jam’n Jamz is offering up free trees and shrubs for adoption this Saturday, Jan. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ernie Morgan Center.

This year there are new kinds of fruits and trees to pick from, courtesy of the City of Norfolk Department of Recreation, Parks and Open Space, Keep Norfolk Beautiful and Friends of Norfolk’s Environment. If you are hoping to bring your family along, the Norfolk Beekeepers, Grow Norfolk, Kids Corner and Tree Trivia are all there to make this event family friendly. Attendees can enjoy jam tasting and cooking demonstrations.

Shrubs are a great alternative if adopting a tree won’t fit in your space. There is a two tree limit per household. Residents who adopt must agree to plant and maintain the tree.

The following trees are available:

  • Apple (2 varieties)
  • Perdue pear
  • Celestial fig
  • Plum (2 varieties)
  • Persimmon (2 varieties)
  • Pawpaw
  • Gold Nugget Loquat
  • Hazelnut (2 varieties)
  • Blackberry (2 varieties)
  • Pawnee Pecan
  • Angel red pomegranate
  • Blueberries (5 varieties)
  • Arctic Kiwi
