Chrysler Exhibit Looks at the Region’s Shipyard Workers

A Norfolk-based photographer is putting a face to the region’s shipyards at the Chrysler Museum. Artist Glen McClure’s “The Shipyard Workers of Hampton Roads” features the men and women who form the foundation of our coastal economy.

McClure spent years capturing workers on the docks, in the factories and along the waterways. After roughly 9,000 frames and 400 subjects, the end result is an exhibition so large it will be presented at four Hampton Roads locations this summer.

The Chrysler will have 21 portraits from May 18 to July 16.  Additional portraits will be on view this summer in collaborative exhibitions at the Peninsula Fine Arts Center in Newport News, the Portsmouth Art and Cultural Center, and The Charles H. Taylor Arts Center in Hampton.

Admission is free.
