This story is truly something sweet – that is because Hampton Roads’ most famous ice cream shop is getting some national recognition – again! Doumar’s ice cream will be featured on the Rachael Ray Show for their National Food Holiday edition.
Customers flock to the diner for their famous cone, after all it was invented in 1904 with a machine they still use to this very day.
10 On Your Side visited Doumar’s Friday to speak with owner Randy Windley. He says he received a phone call last week from one of Rachael Ray’s producers asking to be featured on the show. Windley and his wife shot the footage themselves and sent it in for Rachael Ray’s team.
“It’s great for the area; it’s great for Doumars,” said Windley. “The machine [to make waffles] is 113 years old,” said Windley.
Doumar’s is located on the corner of 20th Street and Monticello Avenue in Norfolk. It has become famous both locally and nationally for its North Carolina style barbecue, flavorful shakes and of course, the famous waffle cones.
You can watch the special Rachael Ray segment on Thursday, October 4 at 10 a.m. on WAVY News 10 on FOX43.
