Facebook Community Boost Comes to Hampton

Business owners in Hampton are getting an exclusive opportunity from experts at Facebook from June 26 to June 28 at The American Theatre.

Facebook’s Community Boost program was created to help small businesses thrive with digital marketing. Experts from Facebook will visit 30 cities across the United States, including Hampton.

During their visit, they worked with local organizations to provide digital skills and training for people in need of work, to advise entrepreneurs how to get started and to help existing local businesses and nonprofits get the most out of the internet, according to Facebook’s business website.

“We did research and found in Hampton a lot of local business owners felt understanding social media, social media marketing and digital skills were very important in growing their business. However, a lot of them felt they weren’t that great at it and needed help learning these skills, “said Emmanuel Evita, who manages Communications for Facebook Economic Opportunity Programs.

According to Evita, Facebook has offered online tools and in-person sessions since 2011. However, in 2018 they decided to kick it up a notch.

“Our CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, wants to help small business owners compete in the digital economy. We pledged to invest $1 billion dollars in training and in tools to help small businesses grow. We also pledged to train a million people by 2020,” said Evita.

Some of the featured workshops includes learning how to connect with local shoppers, utilizing Facebook and Instagram stories and taking Facebook Ads to the next level.

Another major part of this new initiative is not only for Facebook to engage with small business owners, but for small business owners to engage with one another.

“It’s important because the health of a business really reflects the health of that community. At the very least, we want to let small business know we are working for them, who are the leaders in their communities that are doing well and give them a snapshot of where they can go to find more resources,” said Evita.

If you weren’t able to make the workshop, you can still find all of this information online. Facebook offers a series of resources called the Blueprint. People can take online courses in 15 minute segments too learn or reinforce something they may have learned.

The next stop on the Facebook Community Boost tour is Phoenix, Arizona, July 9 – 10.
