Family Fun for New Year’s Eve in Hampton Roads

2017 is right around the corner! There are some great New Year’s Eve events going on that center around enjoying the holiday with the family.

December 30

11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. | New Year’s Noon Party | Morgan Memorial & North Suffolk Library
Celebrate the New Year early with a countdown and balloon drop, crafts, snacks, dancing, and more.

December 31

10 a.m. – 12 p.m. | Noon Year’s Eve | MEO Central Library – Virginia Beach
Bring the family and celebrate 2017 a few hours early with crafts, activities, and a special countdown to noon! All ages. Registration is not required.

11 a.m. – 1 p.m. | Noon Year’s Eve Celebration | Virginia Living Museum
Blast off into the new year with our space adventure-themed Noon Year’s Eve celebration. Come dressed for your space adventure. Meet costumed characters from your favorite galactic movies and enjoy a variety of fun, spacey activities. You’ll also meet all kinds of Earthly Animals from the Teeny Tiny Farm. The countdown has started – see you on the launch pad.

11 a.m. – 1 p.m. | Countdown to 2017 | Virginia Aquarium
Children and adults get ready for the New Year! Join us for contests, games, activities and treats in the Marsh Pavilion.

11 a.m. – 2 p.m. | Noon Year’s Bash: Countdown to Noon | Portsmouth Art & Cultural Center
Bring in the New Year before bedtime by celebrating with a Countdown to Noon with a glittery ball drop and toast. Face painting, magic and balloon-making will take place along with a photo booth and refreshments. After “Noon Year” arrives, kids can create their own fireworks on a carpet of giant bubble wrap.

2 p.m. – Midnight | Light Night on the Town | Town Center of Virginia Beach & Pembroke Mall
The 4th annual Last Night on the Town begins with a family-friendly celebration at Pembroke Mall, then continues right through the night with entertainment at Town Center, culminating with a live performance by Smash Mouth and Fireworks Presented by Planet Fitness.

3:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. | Olde Towne Scottish Walk | Queen and Washington Streets continue to High Street Landing
Modeled after Scotland’s Hogmany Festival, the walk is a day when townspeople honor their community and merchants, wishing good luck and prosperity in the coming year. Join the procession of families, friends and visitors led by bagpipe-and-drums. Begin at the corner of Queen and Washington Streets continue to High Street Landing for a flag ceremony that honors George Washington’s raising of the first flag, the Grand Union.

3:30 p,m. – Midnight | New Year’s Eve First Night Williamsburg | Sandler Center at William & Mary
First Night Williamsburg is a family-oriented, New Year’s Eve celebration of the performing arts presented throughout the City and on the campus of the College of William & Mary. Food will be available for purchase from various food trucks set up around the area.

9 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. | New Year’s Eve Downtown Hampton Block Party | Downtown Hampton
The event started with a few hundred people, and has steadily grown over the past two years, and this year promises to be no exception. At midnight, there will be a crab pot drop from the top of the Old Point Bank headquarters, which has become a peninsula New Year’s Eve staple.
