First Colonial Grad Mark Ruffalo is up for an Oscar

Award’s season is off and running in the world of cinema. The Golden Globes have been handed out, which is a prelude to the big one, the Academy Awards aka the Oscars. The nominations for movie’s top achievement are out, and a Hampton Roads native is on the list. First Colonial High School graduate Mark Ruffalo is up for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the drama Spotlight.

Ruffalo is originally from Wisconsin, but his family moved to Virginia Beach where he spent most of his teen years before leaving for Hollywood. Also this isn’t Ruffalo’s first nomination, he was also up for the award in 2015 for his role in Foxcatcher and in 2011 for his part in The Kids Are All Alright.

The award ceremony is set for February 27th at 7 p.m.
