French ship Hermione arrives in Yorktown

Th French tall ship Hermione docked in Yorktown as the first host port on her visit to the U.S.

The French Governor Terry McAuliffe and French Minister Ségolène Royal both appeared at a welcoming ceremony for the ship June 5.

The Hermione is a replica 18th century French frigate that carried the Marquis de Lafayette from France to America in 1780, bringing additional support during the Revolutionary War.

After the welcome ceremony, three days of weekend activities will commence and include deck tours of the Hermione and Yorktown Settlement’s own Godspeed, historical re-enactors, a traveling photo exhibit of the Hermione, vendors, entertainment and more.

Deck tours are free, but visitors must obtain timed tickets, which will be available on the green area adjacent to the Riverwalk Landing piers. Tickets will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
