Hampton Carousel Park Got Some Upgrades

Hampton’s Carousel Park has received some upgraded features for the summer!

New amenities include an urban beach area where visitors can relax or play in the sand while enjoying a waterfront view. The new beach area has taken over the green space by the carousel. Plans are in place to also add a walkway on the beach to allow a space for vendors and food options in the future.

The city also plans to add bistro tables and chairs with umbrellas to the remaining grassy area. The city plans to design a space that will become a new lunch spot for the community.

In addition to the beach, a dog activity area to serve residents with dogs and any boaters who bring along their four-legged friends. The city says they plan for the fenced-in, off-leash area to be designed in a way that makes the area attractive. The Development Partnership will be posting rules and regulations, as well as monitoring this new area.

The City of Hampton partnered with The Downtown Hampton Development Partnership decided to add features to the park after receiving recommendations from the non-profit Project for Public Spaces.

Even with all of the additions, the Hampton Carousel remains the highlight of the park. The carousel is a restored 1920 wooden merry-go-round and rides only cost $1. The new design is meant to bring residents, local workers and visitors to the park area.
