June is known as National Pride Month, highlighting the history of the LGBTQ community. This year Pride Month is particularly special for the Hampton Roads Pride organization as they celebrate their monumental 30th year.
Every year they host a series of special events that celebrate the Hampton Roads LGBT community, ending with the PrideFest finale on Saturday. According to their website, this is the largest Pride festival in the state.
From June 21 to June 30, you can find a variety of Hampton Roads Pride events across the region.
Thursday, June 21 | Chrysler Kickoff | 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. | Chrysler Museum of Art
This kickoff event will feature live music, photo ops, food, a cash bar and a ‘Make & Take’ table where you can create your own flag. $5 for those who are not museum or Hampton Roads Pride members.
Sunday, June 24 | Drag Brunch | 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. | Croc’s 19th Street Bistro
Head to Virginia Beach for a pre-party kickoff to Pride Week. This event includes a fundraiser, raffle prizes, food, drinks and Drag Queens! Reservation are recommended.
Monday, June 25 | Beach and Beats | 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. | Smartmouth Brewery, Virginia Beach
Lots of Smartmouth Beer, dancing and fun! Musical beats will be provided by DJ Matty while performers from Mambo Room entertain you!
Tuesday, June 26 | Interfaith Celebration | 7 p.m. | New Life Metropolitan Community Church
Join faith groups from all across Hampton Roads for the 6th annual Interfaith Celebration during Pride Week. People of faith will lend their voices and presence, speaking and acting in the name of justice and equality for all in the greater LGBTQIA Community. Participation is open to all faith communities who are part of or supportive of the greater LGBTQIA greater community.
Wednesday, June 27 | Pride 30 | 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. | Virginia Air and Space Museum
A look back on the last 30 years of pride in the Hampton Roads area. Dr. Charles Ford will be the keynote speaker. Afterwards, there will be an open moderated conversation. The conversation will allow participants to share a moment of reflection on their positive personal journey to Pride 30.
Wednesday, June 27 | Pride on the Peninsula | 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. | Carousel Park, Downtown Hampton
Party with Pride at the Fourth annual Pride Party on the Peninsula. Attendees will enjoy complimentary food and beverage, as well as free rides on the historic Hampton Carousel. Later, hop aboard the Miss Hampton II for the Second annual Drag Down the River Boat Cruise.
Thursday, June 28 | Crafty Queens | 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. | O’Connor Brewing Company
O’Connor’s will release their small-batch ‘Crafty Queen Shandies,’ made especially for Hampton Roads Pride. Mercedes Douglas and her Drag Race Girls will be there to entertain you as well as tempt you to test your luck on the 50/50 raffle.
Friday, June 29 | 7th Annual Block Party | 7 p.m. to midnight | Norfolk Scope Arena
Expect the unexpected at this wildly popular all-night dance party which also features drag, live art and performers. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 after June 25. Open to all ages, 21+ to drink.
Saturday, June 30 | Boat Parade | 12 p.m. | Norfolk Waterfront
On the day of PrideFest, the claimed nation’s only Pride Boat Parade helps to kick off the festivities along the Town Point Park waterfront. Line up on the dock to watch vessels small and large float by with over-the-top theme decorations. Interested in being part of the parade? You can register your own boat or join the fun on The American Rover for their “Out on the Boat” party.
Saturday, June 30 | PrideFest | 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. | Town Point Park
It’s the Big Event, the largest Pride festival in the state! There will be lots of performances throughout the day including recording artist, Jussie Smollett, the Hampton Roads Pride Mass Choir, 4-Star Edition Navy Band, Hampton Roads own Black Sheep, The Rich Kids and Miss Understood. There will be vendors, local food and drink, activities and exhibits and more!
