Friday, July 24-Sunday, July 26/Midsummer Fantasy Festival/Town Point Park
Norfolk Festevents presents an interactive performance art event that will emerge in Town Point Park and will explore a meditation of Shakespearean themes with visual and performance artists, large scale art installations, musicians and event designers. The festival will feature a variety of unique entertainment, children’s activities, craft brews, wines and ciders, as well as gourmet specialty food selections. Friday, July 24-Sunday, July 26/The Magic & Music of Motown/TCC Roper Performance Art Center
Whether you heard it live, on an 8 track player, or through the grapevine – there is no mistaking that soulfully distinct 1960’s Motown sound. During an era fraught with division and aggression, Motown brought people together through the magic of its music. Click here for ticket information


Friday, July 24-Saturday, July 25/City of Portsmouth Presents: July Jazz/nTelos Wireless Pavilion
National recording artist and jazz violinist, Karen Briggs performs with special guest, Rajazz. On Saturday July 25, National recording artist Brian Simpson performs with special guest, Forte Jazz Band Gates open at 6 p.m. Show starts at 6:30 p.m. FREE

The Governor’s School for the Arts Jazz Band will be performing in the Center every Friday from 5-7pm beginning April 24th and continuing through August 28th. FREE

All Day/Fishin’ Fridays at Little Island Fishing Pier
Every Friday in July pay for one fishing pier entrance fee ($8) and get a second entrance for free!​



7:00 p.m./Tidewater Bluegrass Music Association Concert/Hickory Ruritan Club
The TBMA monthly concert held at the Hickory Ruritan Club features some of the best in local and regional bluegrass talent. July’s concert features music by Solid Rock. Donations are accepted at the door to cover the cost of the bands and rental.


11:00 a.m./Freaky Kon-Tiki Hampton River Raft Race/Mill Point Park
The river raft race, presented by 32nd annual Hampton Bay Days, allows a team of five people to build a raft on-site and race other contestants around a course in the Hampton River. Each participant must be at least 14 years-old to compete. Fee to participate, FREE to watch

10:30 a.m./Mid-Atlantic Hermit Crab Challenge/Oceanfront at 30th St.
The Crab is King at this one-of-a-kind event that’s fun for the whole family! Registration begins at 9:30am and all participants must be registered by noon in order to race. Preliminary hermit crab races lead to the Crustacean 500, where the winner is awarded the “Order of the Mercury Claw” trophy. 7:50 p.m./Big Screen Saturdays: Transformers Age of Extinction 3D/Virginia Aquarium
After defeating Sentinel Prime and Megatron’s army in Chicago, the Autobots have gone into hiding after the government deemed all transformers as threats, and thus, began to hunt them all down. Meanwhile, a mysterious new enemy, Lockdown, sets his eyes on earth. $3

9:00 p.m./Laser Light Show on the Beach/Virginia Beach Oceanfront
The C3 Laser & Light Show is many things at once: a festival light and video production using lasers, pyrotechnics, and three giant cylindrical projection screens, all to a pulsing soundtrack guaranteed to capture and thrill beach audiences. This “Rockin’ Adventure at Virginia Beach,” inspired by the ocean, utilizes classic rock and newer pop hits to take the viewer on an adventure that ends with a mind-blowing laser/light/projection/flame finale! Watch from the boardwalk or beach. 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m./Groovin’ by the Bay: The Showmen/Buckroe Beach Park
Sunday evenings will be rocking at the beach this summer with a musical mix including everything from beach, pop, oldies, Motown and swing. Whether listening or dancing, you’ll enjoy this evening of music on the Chesapeake Bay!
