Hurricane Florence Cancels Many Local Events

Hurricane Florence is forecast to make landfall sometime late Thursday evening along the southeast coast and Hampton Roads will feel its effects. As a result, local organizations are preparing and have started announcing event cancellations ahead of the storm.

  • The Movies & More Series for Saturday, Sept. 15 at Courtyard Square Park has been canceled. You can catch the next showing on Saturday, Oct. 13.
  • Bra-ha-ha 5K and One Mile Fun Run, scheduled for  Saturday, September 15th is now rescheduled for Saturday, October 13th.


  • Blue Bird Gap Farm will be closed Wednesday, Sept. 12 to finalize all of our storm preparations
  • Fort Monroe will be closed until Monday, Sept. 17.





  • The 9-11 Never Forget Memorial scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 11 at Portsmouth City Hall is canceled.
  • The Great World War lecture at the Churchland Public Library scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 13 has been canceled.
  • RIVERFest, scheduled for this Saturday, Sept. 15 is now rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 6 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.


  • The Neptune Festival 22nd Annual Fall Wine Festival scheduled for this upcoming weekend at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront has been canceled.
  • The annual Town Center Fashion Show scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15 is RESCHEDULED to Saturday, Sept. 22 in the Town Center Fountain Plaza from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • D’Art Center’s Merge Reception has been postponed. All classes are canceled until further notice.
  • The Zac Brown Band concert scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15 at Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater has been cancelled. Refunds will be issued.
  • Virginia Beach Farmer’s Market Hoedown Scheduled for Friday, September 14th is canceled. It will resume next Friday.
  • The Lynnhaven River Ecosystem Restoration Project Open House Wednesday, September 12th is canceled.
