A holiday favorite is returning to the MacArthur Center with the 12th season of “MacArthur On Ice”. This tradition brings a 7,200-square-foot outdoor ice rink to the green next to the mall.
Starting November 19 the fun goes through January 16, 2017. Throughout the season, enjoy public skating sessions, ice hockey clinics, figure skating exhibitions and more.
Carnival rides and attractions are also part of the fun. Also private lessons are available to those who are a bit rusty or new to the ice.
On Saturday, November 19, you can skate with your favorite WAVY personalities from 1 – 3 p.m.
You’ll be able to meet and skate with Anita Blanton from WAVY News, she says about the event:
“This event is always SUCH a joy! To see the smiles on children’s faces as they skate out onto the ice, and be a part of such a family-friendly event is something many of us at WAVY look forward to each year. I’m not a great ice skater, but MacArthur on Ice has definitely become one of my favorite places to be as the holiday season begins.”
What WAVY News’ Tom Schaad, you’ll there as well, says about the event:
“Gliding on the ice at MacArthur Center reminds me of the opening scene from ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas.’ The kids skating at night with that cool piano played by Vince Guaraldi, and the drummer’s brushes in the background. It paints a picture of anticipation from your childhood. When you put on the skates, and they play ‘Christmastime is Here” over the PA, it takes you back to a time when Christmas carried a special magic, and it still does for me.”
The MacArthur Center on their partnership with WAVY:
It’s been a great partnership between WAVY and MacArthur On Ice. I’m pretty sure the WAVY weather team is responsible for the great opening day weather we’ve had every year! It’s so fun to see the news personalities enjoy a fun event and meet and greet and take lots of selfies with the viewers.
