NEON, Wine, and Fall Fun This Weekend in Hampton Roads

The beautiful Hampton Roads fall weekends march on!

This weekend Norfolk is celebrating the newly minted NEON district, not to mention the Annual Town Point Virginia Wine Festival.

Not to be outdone, Hampton is crawling with good times with the Crawlin’ Crab races and beer fest.

It’s all Greek to Williamsburg for their celebration of the colorful culture and there’s a whole lot of suds on the beach for the Virginia Beach Craft Beer Festival. Where will we see YOU this weekend?

Friday-Sunday/The Crawlin’ Crab Weekend/Hampton Roads Convention Center
The Crawlin’ Crab races offer flat, fast courses, incredible scenery, and a post-race party second-to-none.


Thursday-Friday/NEON Festival/NEON District
The NEON Festival is a celebration of energy and light in the NEON, Norfolk’s Arts District. During the evenings of October 15 and 16, local and national artists, performers and musicians will showcase their talents at pop-up venues, the Plot and the cultural anchors of the NEON District. FREE

Friday-Saturday/Haunted Ship: Zombie Pirates/Nauticus
Chemical waste has turned pirates and the Battleship Wisconsin’s crew into zombies—can you escape in time to avoid the same fate?  This experience is not recommended for children under age 13, the claustrophobic, or faint of heart.  Must be able to climb steep ladders and navigate tight, dark spaces.  $9 for groups of 15 or more who must book and pay in advance. Tickets are $10

Saturday-Sunday/28th Annual Town Point Virginia Wine Festival/Town Point Park
Experience Hampton Roads’ most anticipated Wine Festival of the fall season along the Downtown Norfolk Waterfront. This year’s fall favorite will showcase more than 30 wineries with over 200 of the Commonwealth’s finest wine varieties. $25 Saturday, $20 Sunday

Friday-Sunday/Poquoson Seafood Festival/Poquoson Municipal Park
The Festival draws nearly 50,000 people over the three day event and features both local and regional entertainment and a variety of food vendors featuring tasty delights highlighting seafood.  Arts and Crafts vendors that are part of a juried arts and craft show also entice local shoppers. FREE


Saturday-Sunday/Driver Days Fall Festival/King’s Highway, Driver Village
Live music includes the Cody Austin Band, Snackbar Jones, TailGate Down, The Johnny Wood Band, Childz Play, and Master’s Hand Quartet. Other exciting events include a cornhole tournament, pony and train rides, pumpkin painting, 100+ crafters and food vendors, a pet costume contest, car show, parade, battle of the bands, and the Annual Sherri Parker Memorial Poker Run & Bike Show.  FREE


Saturday-Sunday/Bacon’s Rebellion Re-enactment/Bacon’s Castle
Learn about history from our costumed historical interpreters as members of Bacon’s Rebellion under Captain Rookings occupy the “Arthur Allen Brick House” in Surry County. Learn how the events in 1676 and 1677 Virginia led to dramatic trends toward race-based slavery, Virginia Indian relations, and struggles between western and eastern Virginians. Attendance to the day’s events is included in general admission to the Historic Site. $8

Saturday-Sunday/Virginia Beach Craft Beer Festival/Oceanfront
Over 80 craft beers from over 50 breweries are available for sampling at the Virginia Beach Craft Beer Festival. Tickets include sampling, a commemorative cup, and live entertainment. Tickets are $25 in advance ($30 DOS) for Saturday, October 17, and $20 in advance ($25 DOS) for Sunday.
